Overview
Sephora Illumination is a real-time interactive installation developed by Studio Carlos with Superbien and Start Rec for Sephora, in collaboration with the agency Zulu-Alpha Kilo. This poetic and immersive experience invites visitors to interact directly with thousands of skin-tone shades from Sephora's extensive Color IQ database. By simply moving their arms, participants generate captivating particle movements and generative soundscapes, creating a unique and personal exploration of the vast spectrum of human skin tones.
Technical details
The installation's technical pipeline relies on Sick LiDAR sensors to capture visitor movements. This data is processed in real time by TouchDesigner, which sends it to Notch for visual generation. The entire system runs on the Onlyview media server. Simultaneously, the data is sent to Max/MSP and Ableton Live for real-time audio generation. Each particle is visually represented by an authentic shade from Sephora's Color IQ database, built from millions of in-store skin scans, ensuring a completely immersive and constantly changing environment.
