Hermès — World of Pegasi (Saut Hermès 2022)

At the Saut Hermès, children color a Pegasus that lifts off the page as if by magic, comes alive, and flies into an immersive fresco.

"World of Pegasi" is the participatory experience conceived for the 12th edition of the Saut Hermès, in 2022, at the Grand Palais Éphémère, which I led end to end, from client brief to delivery. Children color a Pegasus; the sheet, slid into a scenographed box, is scanned and the drawing lifts off as if by magic onto a screen, comes alive, then escapes to join a large immersive fresco where the audience's Pegasi interact. A play of 3D-printed forms and mapping dissolves the boundary between paper and animation. Built on a TouchDesigner base, with Studio Fantôme on development and illustrator Jacqueline Colley on the graphic universe.

Hundreds of animated drawings. Project led end to end, from client brief to delivery.

Technical details

Once the drawing is finished, the sheet is slid into a custom box built by a set designer. Inside, an edge scanner draws in the sheet and relays it live to a screen atop the box: the drawing lifts off as if by magic, comes alive, then leaves the box to join a large immersive screen. A play of 3D-printed forms and mapping erases the boundary between print, frame, and video. The whole runs on a TouchDesigner base, from scan to display and spatialized sound design.
