Spectacula - Opéra Graslin
The ten neon letters of Spectacula light up at sunset over the Opéra Graslin: a luminous score timed to the sun's course.
Spectacula is a light installation created in 2015 at the Opéra Graslin in Nantes, for Aurelien Bory (Cie 111), as part of Le Voyage à Nantes. I worked specifically on the illumination of the ten suspended neon Spectacula letters in the hall, facing the Place Graslin. I built the communication system driving the dimmers that power the tubes, and wrote LUA programming to compose the lighting-up and fade-out sequences defined with the director. The score's start was synchronized to sunset, through a calculation of the sun's position.
