Mycelium - interactive generative floor
A living floor where every step blooms into forms that dissolve over time. A generative, contemplative work, driven by LIDAR.
Mycelium is an interactive floor installation, presented at Galerie Sheriff around 2021. The floor detects visitors' steps and makes organic forms bloom where they pass, before dissolving over time. The setup relies on a LIDAR sensor and TouchDesigner for real-time detection and generation, in a living, contemplative aesthetic that turns walking into a creative gesture.
Technical details
The generative floor is driven by a LIDAR sensor and TouchDesigner: step detection triggers the birth of the forms, then their dissolution over time, all in real time. The challenge lay in the accuracy of the detection and the organic quality of the simulation.
